Transition month, here I come!
Hello friends. It never gets any easier, especially if it is not a direct shot from one style of travel to the next but rather living in limbo for a month.
By the time you read this, I will have touched down in Lima, Peru, and will be preparing for my short-hop flight to Cusco, Peru, for our next group trip in 2024. But before that, I flew from Paris directly to Miami to drop Sentry at the pet sitter's house, retrieve and test out our Appalachian Trail gear, hug my in-laws and other family members, visit a flight school, and have lunch with a friend. Plus, a visit to Costco (and that is never a quick visit) to get food for the hike and then the pharmacy for blister care. I have all the “stuff” to prevent blisters, but in the event those nasty buggers get me, I wanted to have a remedy right in my side belt. Are you tired from reading this? Me too! It is a busy month.
Changing continents is easy, changing countries is easy, and changing time zones is easy with my one bag and one carry-on. Changing a style of travel is exhausting: in with new gear, out with old, and where do I put the old? Will there be unexpected expenses? What will the bumps in the road be? When will we find our groove again? It is all unknown, and we thrive in the unknown, but that does not make it seamless. However, the excitement of the next adventure is always intense in all the good ways.
