Sorry
First up, WOW! Thank you all for NOT unsubscribing (from our first newsletter from Substack) because of the 800 buttons requesting you to “upgrade to a paid” subscription. I put 2 and Substack apparently adds in the rest, but it does not show in the layout, only once it has been sent. Of course yes, we do have that option, but by no means did I want to SHOUT IT AT YOU. Thanks for understanding. Let’s see if I can get it right this week. And I wonder why doing new things can be scary. Ha! Thank you to everyone who upgrade to paid, became a new subscriber and shared.
For those of you who have no clue what I am talking about…
The newsletter/podcast will remain completely free, but if you find value in our work, please consider a paid newsletter and/or podcast subscription. For just $5/month or $50/annual sub for a better deal. I know some of you are not interested in subscriptions and prefer to send your contribution directly to us on Venmo (@Jessica-Sueiro) or Paypal. I am so happy to have you here and thank you for your continued support of my writing and our future podcast.
4 states in 7 days
My plan for this weeks newsletter is to do short posts to update you on all that is happening. Longer and more thoughtful posts will be sprinkled in from week to week, but not every week allows me to write in great detail. Just depends what is happening in our world. Last week we spent 7 days in the US and were in 4 states, so today I will recap that a bit. Longer writing projects I am currently working on will address: How we nurtured and indirectly encouraged a strong friendship between our children. Are online friends real friends? How Madrid, Paris and London changed the course of our life. And several others. Ok, let’s get this party started.
Parents Weekend, aka Sibling Weekend: We had 2 days to visit Avalon at uni, but that was knocked down to 1 after our connection flight in Miami got cancelled. We got a free hotel, yippie, silver linings. Still a privilege to fly so not complaining, but we did miss a day nonetheless. We had a fabulous time when we finally arrived and after the chili cook-off we jumped in our rental car bound for Annapolis.
Annapolis Boat Show: We arrived in Maryland just in time for the private “YouTubers who sail” party at 8pm. It was so great to meet many of the YouTubers we have become friends with online, in person finally. We hung tight as long as we could muster, but by 11pm we were beat and headed to our accommodations for the night…our friends boat for a sleepover. It is so cool when you can connect with your friends around the globe in various locations. This is WorldTowning in motion.
The next day we headed to the boat show to hang in the YouTube booth and meet so many of you. We were beat by the end of the day, but filled up with community love. Next up was dinner with our sailing mentors (yes we seek guidance as well) and new friends, old friends and a handful of teens/ tweens.
NYC: Monday morning we drove to NYC. This was a surprise for my birthday that was in September. We did all the local stuff as we used to live in NYC and just wanted to reminisce. The kids did collect on Avalon’s graduation present which was seeing the musical Hamilton and we might have visited midtown for some karaoke. We ate all the pizza, bagels, boba, soup dumplings one could imagine.
LA: Avalon and I hopped a flight to Los Angeles a day later so she could take her drivers test. Again, we hung local, ate the things, saw my sister and squeezed in a friend visit. It was a rough trip as I had about 20 hours to teach Ms. Sailor how to drive a car in LOS ANGELES of all places. She passed! Yippie.
Columbia: I got back to Colombia last night, the boys got back two days before and wow, lots is a happening on the boat. Hand rails were added for rough sails, new shelves, electrical for solar upgrades, wall repair AND a/c. Nothing fancy, but Will bought a free standing unit from a boat that was leaving for $50, they are usually hundreds. This is a game changer as it is 100 F with 90% humidity, ever day.
Phew. Are you tired after reading that? Me too.
Group Trip to NYC
One of you got me thinking. Maybe we should do a girls trip to NYC in the spring. It would be local stuff only, but you could come early or stay later for the tourist stuff. I am thinking Karaoke in mid-town, walking the High Line, soup dumplings in China town, bagels, pizza, our favorite Indian food on curry row, a tattoo (maybe), walking-lots and lots of walking and people watching, a hipster restaurant in the village. This seems very food focused, but just my streaming thoughts so far. The Tenement Museum is educational, The Color Factory is FUN, World Trade Center monument to pay our respect, maybe a Central park walk. I will think on it more. Definitely no Empire State, Statue of Liberty, etc… all great, but not the focus for this trip. I will get together a cost if there is enough interest. I can even do a modified cost if you live local and just want to join us for the days, minus hotels. One show? A bit touristy, but always so much fun.
What else?
I have so much to share with all of you. It feels like life is on fast forward right now, but for this week I will get this out to you quickly, regroup and come back next week with a bit more fluid thoughts.
We are putting the finishing touches on our podcast which we decided to change the name of last week, yikes. Our Morocco trip is in a month! Can’t wait. Lots of work is being done on the boat and we have our first WorkAway arriving in 1 hour. Full is good and fun. Off to tidy up his cabin.
xoxo
